Cougars sweep Georgia Southwestern with 9-7 win


AMERICUS, Ga. -- The Columbus State Cougars completed a three-game sweep of Georgia Southwestern Sunday with a 9-7 win.

CSU got out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first when Jackson Oliver scored on a wild pitch followed by RBI singles by Blake Edwards and Blaine Miller.

In the top of the second Brendan Collins scored on a throwing error and Jimmy Obermark hit an RBI single to put CSU up 5-0.

Georgia Southwestern would score three runs in each of the fourth and sixth innings, but the Cougars added two more runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI triple from Oliver and sacrifice fly for an RBI by Obermark.

Matt Nettles scored on a wild pitch in the eighth and Carson Bowers hit an RBI single in the ninth to round out the scoring for Columbus State.

Bryan Headley (8-1) pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

CSU (31-11, 19-5 PBC) will host Albany State Wednesday at 5 p.m.
