Lady Cougars sweep Young Harris in doubleheader


The Columbus State Lady Cougars defeated Young Harris 9-0 and 5-4 in their final games of the regular season.

In Game 1 Casey Googe went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Kristen Carr went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Morgan Staffins went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

Lindsey DeFee (7-5) pitched all five innings and gave up no runs on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

In Game 2 the home run was the name of the game. Morgan Knight, Carr, and DeFee each hit solo shots while Nina Rubio hit a two-run homer.

Taylor Turner (9-11) threw for 5 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits with three strikeouts and six walks.

Columbus State (29-20, 10-12 PBC) will enter the Peach Belt Conference tournament as a No. 6 seed and will face either Armstrong Atlantic or USC Aiken first. The tournament will be held Thursday and Friday at Florence, S.C.
