School superintendent David Lewis will present his proposal of creating Early Success Centers to the Muscogee County School Board at a work session tonight.

The work session is at 5 p.m. in the Muscogee County Public Education Center on Macon Road.

According to the meeting agenda, Lewis says the centers will regionalize the existing pre-kindergarten classrooms across the county to better utilize under-capacity facilities, enhance early childhood academic preparation, increase professional collaboration among pre-kindergarten teachers and provide better programmatic oversight and supervision.

The proposal will transition four existing pre-kindergarten classrooms into blended Head Start classrooms generating an additional $2,800 per student.

It other business:

• Lewis is seeking approval from the board to acquire land for the construction of a replacement high school and for future growth.

Lewis wants board approval to enter into a contract with Columbus Sky LLC for the purchase of 9.33 acres located at 4100 Cusseta Road for $695,000 and approval to negotiate with the city of Columbus to swap parcels associated with this site.

• Approval is being sought by Gentian Elementary for students to begin wearing school uniforms next school year.

A survey of faculty and staff members at Gentian found 99 percent in favor of school uniforms. A survey of parents found 67 percent showing approval.

• The board will receive information on summer credit recovery programs being offered. It will also hear status reports on all school construction, as well as reports from Chattahoochee Valley Libraries and the Columbus Museum.
