Mike McClellan, Jackson Oliver lead Columbus State past Albany State


Mike McClellan and Jackson Oliver continued their respective torrid hitting Wednesday as each had three hits apiece in Columbus State's 8-3 victory over Albany State at Ragsdale Field.

McClellan went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. It was the sixth straight game with multiple base hits. In those six games, he is 14-for-27 (.519).

Oliver went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored against Albany State. It was his third straight game with three hits. In the last six games, he is 15-for-24 (.625).

Blaine Miller also had a homer and a double in Wednesday's game.

Columbus State used six pitchers in the game. Ryan Pistey started and went three shutout innings. Reliever Sean Muller (4-1) was credited with the win after adding two more shutout innings.

The victory was the fifth straight for the Cougars (32-11).

CSU (19-5, .792), which is in first place in the Peach Belt Conference by percentage points over Lander (21-6, .778), hosts USC Aiken for a three-game series that starts Friday at 5 p.m. The teams play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday. Lander plays non-conference teams this weekend.
