Florida sweeps Georgia to open SEC series


GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida scored six runs in the fourth inning and went to an easy 8-1 win to complete a sweep of Georgia on Saturday night.

The Gators rallied to win the opener, 3-2.

In Game 1, Georgia built a two-run lead but couldn't hold on.

Hunter Cole drove in the Dogs' first run with a two-out single in the third inning. Skyler Weber delivered another two-out run-scoring single in the fourth as the Dogs took a 2-0 lead.

Florida tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Then went ahead in the fifth when John Sternagel led off with a home run.

Ryan Lawlor (3-3) pitched a complete game and took the loss. Logan Shore (4-2) got the win. He started and went five innings. Bobby Poyner shut out Georgia over the final four innings to earn the save.

Cole, Weber and Nelson Ward had two hits apiece for Georgia.

In Game 2, Harrison Bader led Florida with a pair of RBIs.

Conor Welton went 3-for-4 with a run scored for Georgia.

The two teams will finish the series at noon Sunday.
