High school roundup: Brookstone sweeps Hawkinsville


Brookstone pounded out 20 runs on 26 hits to take a doubleheader from Hawkinsville. Brookstone won the first game 12-8 and the nightcap 6-5.

In Game 1, Hunter Green went 2-for-3 with a double and homer and drove in three runs for Brookstone. Jarrod Little picked up the win.

In Game 2, Matt Jones, who had five hits on the day, went 3-for-4. Andrew Hamric got the win.

Brookstone has a two-game lead on Schley County in the region with three region games left to play. The Cougars play at Marion County Tuesday at 6 p.m. and then have an away game at Schley County Thursday at 5 p.m. and a home game with Schley on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Columbus High's baseball game at Alexander was postponed for the second time Saturday.

Originally scheduled for Friday, the two teams are now scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m. Monday.



DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Columbus High shot a 5-under-par 283 on Saturday in the second round of the North Georgia High School Golf Classic. It was the best round for the Blue Devils since coach Chris Parker took over the program 21 years ago.

Columbus' two-day total of 24 over left them in fourth place.

Columbus' Stanton Schorr finished tied for third at even-par after shooting a 68 Saturday.

Gainesville won the event at 10 over, followed by Easley (17 over and Alpharetta (19 over). Northside finished 12th at 69 over.

The tournament was played Achasta Golf Club.
