Cougars tied for 1st in PBC after 6-1 loss to USC Aiken


The No. 12. Columbus State Cougars took a step back in their hunt for the Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship Sunday with a 6-1 loss to No. 14 USC Aiken.

The loss ended a seven-game winning streak and puts CSU tied for first in the PBC with Lander. Both teams have a 21-6 conference record.

Jimmy Obermark hit an RBI double in the first to put CSU up 1-0.

This scoreline would remain until USC Aiken tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third.

Aiken scored one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings and two in the sixth to put the Cougars away.

Bryan Headley (8-2) absorbed the loss. He pitched six innings and gave up five runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Columbus State (34-12) will host Valdosta State Wednesday at 6 p.m.
