Nishikori, Robredo advance in Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Fourth-seeded Japanese Kei Nishikori and fifth-seeded Spanish favorite Tommy Robredo were among Tuesday's second- round winners at the $2.55 million Barcelona Open tennis event.

Nishikori got past rising Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, while the former top-10 star Robredo rolled past Aussie Marinko Matosevic 6-3, 6-4 on the red clay at Royal Barcelona Tennis Club.

Also in the round of 32, ninth-seeded Latvian Ernests Gulbis bested Spanish wild card Daniel Gimeno-Traver 7-5, 7-6 (7-1), 10th-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber dismissed Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, and Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev took out 16th-seeded Frenchman Benoit Paire 6-4, 5-1, retired.

The first round wrapped up with four results, as Spaniard Albert Ramos defeated one-time world No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko, of Russia, 6-4, 6-4; Croat Ivan Dodig held off Argentine wild card Facundo Arguello 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2; Slovak Martin Klizan handled Indian Somdev Devvarman 6-2, 6-4; and Austrian Jurgen Melzer edged out Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-3.

This week's winner will earn $580,000.
