State tennis playoffs are getting started for a number of teams in the Columbus area, including the Harris County boys, which lost in its first round matchup against Effingham County on Monday.
In Class AAA, the Carver boys earned the top seed out of Region 2 and will host Haralson County in the first round. That match is tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Creek. The Lady Tigers came away with the 4-seed and will travel to Carrollton to face Central-Carrollton at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Columbus High girls also earned a top seed with a Region 5-AAAA tournament victory and will host Cedartown at 2 p.m. today at Lakebottom.
The boys took second in the region and will play Heritage-Catoosa at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lakebottom.
Also in Class AAAA, both the Shaw boys and girls earned a 4-seed out of Region 5 and will travel to River Ridge and Cass, respectively. The boys will play at 4 p.m. Wednesday and the girls at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. In Class AAAAA, the Harris County girls took third in the region and travel to No. 2-seed Richmond Hill today. The boys team hosted No. 3-seed Effingham County on Monday and lost 4-1.
Also in Class AAAAA, the Hardaway boys and girls both travel to top seed Glynn Academy today.
The Brookstone boys and girls both earned top seeds in the Class A private tournament, but opponents were not settled for the first round as of press time Monday. The Class A schools have until April 29 to play their first-round games, while the other five classes have to finish their opening games by April 24.
