High school roundup: Columbus High golf teams sweep region championships


Columbus High won its 10th straight region championship Monday by capturing the Region 5-AAAA title at Bull Creek.

Columbus won with a team score of 7-over 295, 29 shots ahead of LaGrange.

The Blue Devils' performance was so dominating that they had the five lowest scores in the tournament.

Daniel Davis won medalist honors with an even-par 72. Patrick Edwards followed with a 73, and Carson Cummings added a 74. Ben Womack and Nolan Miller both had a 76.

Columbus earns a bye to the state tournament, which will be held at Westlake Country Club in Augusta on May 19.

The Columbus High girls won their 18th straight Region 5-AAAA title by shooting the low score of 252 at Bull Creek. Brett Beavers shot an 80 and was medalist.

Columbus will play in the state tournament May 19 at Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro, Ga.
