CVCC sweeps Southern Union

The Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates defeated Southern Union in both legs of a doubleheader. The Pirates won the first game 13-3 and the nightcap 2-0.

Southern Union took a 3-0 lead early in Game 1, but CVCC scored four runs in the second to take the lead.

Starting pitcher Dalton Rentz (8-2) took over from there. He pitched all seven innings and gave up three runs with five strikeouts and one walk.

The Pirates put the game away by scoring six runs in the fifth.

Jeff Ronpirin went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Kenny Ford went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Cam Sperry went 2-for-5 with two RBIs for CVCC.

In Game 2 Jared Martin provided the only offense of the game by hitting a two-RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth.

Dylan Lee pitched seven innings and gave up only one hit with five strikeouts.

CVCC (36-8, 16-3 ACCC) will host Central Alabama Tuesday at 2 p.m.
