Significant items are missing from the Seale, Ala., mobile home where 23-year-old Eric Tunnell Anderson was found slain Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said Wednesday the unidentified items could have been taken during some type of home invasion at 150 Avalon Circle, but investigators are checking all leads.
At this point, I dont want to give the items stolen, Taylor said. There were significant things missing as we started investigating the homicide.
The sheriff said investigators are trying to track some of the missing items at pawn shops and other places where people sell property. People of interest are also being sought in the case so investigators can interview them for information.
It is still early, he said. We still have a lot of stones to uncover. We are on the right path. We know who his closest friends are. Some of them have been very helpful to us in this investigation.
Anderson came from Katy, Texas, a small town just west of Houston, to attend Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City. He had been in the area for more than a year, first living with a roommate before getting his own mobile home.
Taylor believes Anderson was killed sometime Friday, four days before a former roommate and the landlord went to the students mobile home.
An autopsy was completed Wednesday in Montgomery, Ala., but no results were available.
We have not received anything officially from the autopsy, the sheriff said.
Although items are missing from inside the mobile home, Andersons car was still parked at the home. Taylor said it was towed from the scene and processed for possible clues in the death.
Andersons parents are expected in the area today to make arrangements to send the body back to Texas.
The sheriff hopes to have more information on the case in the next few days.
We are not ruling anything out at this point, he said. I feel like we have some good things going in this case, good leads we are following up. Hopefully in the next few days, we will have developed a suspect and tracked them down.
