Mercer downs Georgia Tech in 10 innings


ATLANTA -- Charlie Madden doubled in a run in the top of the 10th inning to lift Mercer (32-10) to a 4-3 victory over Georgia at Russ Chandler Stadium on Wednesday night.

The game was scheduled to be played in Macon on Tuesday, but due to rain, it was postponed. On Wednesday morning, the teams agreed to move the game to Atlanta and play it Wednesday night.

Madden finished the game 3-for-4.

Matt Gonzalez led Tech by going 2-for-4 with an RBI. He drove in the tying run in the bottom of the ninth that forced the extra inning.

Tech (25-17) will open an ACC series at North Carolina State at 6 p.m. Friday.
