Columbus State falls to Valdosta State

Valdosta State scored five times in the ninth inning to blow open a close game and beat Columbus State 12-6 on Wednesday night at Ragsdale Field.

Columbus State (34-13) rallied from a four-run deficit to take a 5-4 lead with a single run in the third and four in the fourth. But VSU (24-16) scored three in the sixth for a 7-5 lead.

The Cougars cut the deficit in half with a run in the seventh.

Brendan Collins led CSU at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Jackson Oliver had a pair of hits. Jimmy Obermark drove in a pair of runs.

Mike Reed drove in three runs for the Blazers.

Jake Ezell (0-1) took the loss. He gave up the three runs to VSU in the sixth.

Columbus State, which is tied with Lander atop the Peach Belt Conference standings, opens a PBC series at North Georgia at 5 p.m. Friday.
