A man is being treated for life-threatening bullet wounds after he was shot inside his white SUV on Adair Avenue, Columbus police said late Thursday.

The victim was treated by emergency medical services personnel before he was transported to Midtown Medical Center, said police Lt. Debra L. Bohannon. No condition report was available, but police said the victim’s injuries are life threatening.

The shooting occurred around 1:50 p.m. in front of Rivers Homes, a small public housing complex.

Police sealed off the area while detectives investigated the shooting.

Part of Wynnton Road and Adair Avenue were temporarily blocked while police seized the victim’s SUV as part of the investigation.

Mamie Whatley, a resident of Rivers Homes, said she had just returned from the doctor’s office when she learned about the shooting. She hadn’t seen the white vehicle in the area before Thursday.

“I don’t know him,” she said.

Over the last few days, Whatley said she has heard gunshots in the area.

“The place has gotten bad,” she said, retreating to her apartment.
