CVCC racks up 20 hits in 16-6 win over Wallace State-Selma

SELMA, Ala. -- The No. 1 ranked Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates racked up 16 runs on 20 hits as they cruised past Wallace State-Selma 16-6 Friday.

CVCC took a 4-0 lead by the third inning, but some bad fielding decisions led to Wallace State hanging six runs on the Pirates in one inning.

CVCC kept its composure, however, and retook the lead by scoring four runs in the fourth. From there the Pirates scored insurance 2-3 runs per inning per inning to put the game away.

Matt Evenson (5-0) pitched 5 2-3 innings and gave up six runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Jeff Ronpirin went 4-for-6 with three RBIs, Jared Martin went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and Cam Sperry went 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

CVCC (38-8, 18-3 ACCC) will play a doubleheader at Wallace State-Selma Saturday starting at 1 p.m. to complete the three-game road series.
