CVCC clinches division title with sweep of Wallace State-Selma


SELMA, Ala. -- The Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates needed two wins to clinch the Central Division of the Alabama Community College Conference.

Thanks to a doubleheader sweep of Wallace State-Selma Saturday, the Pirates earned those two wins and the division title.

Along with clinching the division title, the Pirates are now guaranteed to enter the ACCC tournament as a No. 1 seed.

CVCC defeated Wallace State 3-2 in the first game and 2-1 in the nightcap.

The Pirates were tied with Wallace State 2-2 going into the ninth. Jared Martin, who went 3-for-5, led off with a triple. Grayson Ivey then brought Martin in on a sacrifice fly for what turned out to be the winning run.

Trevor Kieboom went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Kenny Ford went 2-for-4 with an RBI for CVCC.

Dylan Lee (8-0) pitched a complete game and gave up two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

In Game 2 starting pitcher Dalton Rentz (9-2) took the mound and maintained control for seven innings. He gave up one run on three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Martin went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Cam Sperry went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

CVCC (40-8, 20-3) will travel to play Southern Union Tuesday at 3 p.m.
