High school roundup: Columbus holds off Parkview for 4-2 win

Russel Forthofer hit a home run as Columbus closed out the regular season with a 4-2 win over Parkview.

Jacob Pate picked up the win.

The Blue Devils (21-5) will head into the GHSA Class AAAA state playoffs as the No. 2 seed from Region 5. They will host the third seed from Region 7.

The first two games will be played Friday with the if game scheduled for Saturday.

NORTHSIDE 3,LAGRANGE 1

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- Northside scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning to finish the regular season with a win over LaGrange.

Jacob Hinson and Bryce Delevie drove in runs for Northside.

The Patriots (16-10) will be the No. 3 seed from Region 1-AAAAA heading into the first round of the state tournament on Friday.

LATE SATURDAY HIGH SCHOOL TRACK 10 from Northside qualify for state 10 members of Northside’s track and field team qualified for the state meet to be held in Albany, Ga., May 1-3 and Jefferson, Ga., May 8-10. Abraham Perez will compete in the 800-meter run. Tyrris Mitchell qualified for the 100-meter dash, and Travis Underwood will compete in the wheelchair 200- and 800-meter races and the wheelchair shotput. On the girls side Bunmi Suwanmi qualified for the discus throw, Sydney Wright will compete in the 100-meter dash, Karaysha White qualified in the triple jump, Chelsea Nix qualified in the 300-meter hurdles, Daijah Fullwood will compete in the 800-meter run and four members of the girl’s 4x100-meter relay team (Nix, Wright, Aaliya Myers, Erin Nix, Deneisha Kerr-Waller, Fullwood) will compete. Northside will be on the road at the No. 2 seed from Region 3.

HAMILTON, Ga. -- Cody Durham hit a homer, but it was not enough as Harris County lost its regular-season finale.

The Tigers (19-7) will open the Class AAAAA state playoffs at home Friday as the Region 1 champions. They will host the No. 4 seed from Region 3.

SMITHS STATION AT HOME

Smiths Station will be at home on Friday for the AHSAA Class 6A quarterfinals.

The Panthers, who swept Auburn on Friday, will host Baker for a best-of-three series. Baker beat Alma Bryant on Saturday in Game 3 of their second-round series.

JORDAN ON ROAD

Jordan, the No. 4 seed from Region 5, will open the Class AA state tournament at Calhoun, the Region 7 champion.

The teams will play a doubleheader, starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The if game would be at 2 p.m. Saturday.

COLQUITT CO. 295,Columbus 297

MOULTRIE, Ga. -- Columbus shot a team score of 297, good enough for second place, in the Packer Invitational at Sunset Country Club.

Daniel Davis shot a 71, the low score for Columbus.

Columbus will play in the Brookstone Invitational at Green Island Country Club on Monday.

CENTRAL, SMITHS LOSE

PRATTVILLE, Ala. -- The Smiths Station girls lost 4-1 to Prattville in the first round of the Class 6A state tournament.

Smiths Station entered the tournament as the Area 5 runner-up.

The Central boys soccer team also lost its first-round game.

The Red Devils, who were making their first appearance in the state tournament, lost 3-2 to Prattville. Central also finished as an Area 5 runner-up.

DROP MEDALIST

Pacelli's Sarah Grace Drop won medalist honors with an 84 in the Class A private-school area tournament.

Pacelli finished second to Savannah Christian in the team results.
