Berdych into semis; Raonic ousted in Portugal

Oeiras, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seed Tomas Berdych fought back to reach the semifinals, while second-seeded Canadian slugger Milos Raonic came up a quarterfinal loser Friday at the $590,000 Portugal Open, a clay court French Open tune-up.

The world No. 6 Czech star Berdych came from behind to beat Argentine qualifier Leonardo Mayer 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in 2 hours, 9 minutes, while the ninth- ranked Raonic came up on the losing end against Argentine Carlos Berlocq, 7-5, 6-4. Berlocq broke Raonic on four occasions en route to the upset.

Berdych's semifinal opponent will be 6-foot-6 Romanian veteran Victor Hanescu.

Two other quarterfinals saw qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver upset third-seeded fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers 6-1, 6-2 and the 32-year-old Hanescu handle Portuguese wild card Gastao Elias 6-1, 7-5. Gimeno-Traver will face Berlocq in the final four.

The 2014 Oeiras champion will collect $107,000.
