Kieboom, Rentz lead No. 1 CVCC to 8-2 win over Marion Military Institute

Trevor Kieboom went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs and Dalton Rentz picked up his 20th career victory Friday as No. 1 CVCC defeated Marion Military Institute 8-2.

The Pirates (41-9, 21-4 ACCC) put together four consecutive hits and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to jump to a 4-0 lead.

Jared Martin and Cam Sperry were each 2-for-5 and drove in a run.

Rentz (10-2) was in control all day and now has a chance to break the school record for career wins. After Friday he is tied with John Hansen (1977-78) with 20 wins. Tim Hudson (1994-95) is just behind them with 16 career wins. Rentz career record is 20-3.

Coach Adam Thomas says the team also has a chance to set the season record for wins.

The Pirates won 42 games in 2010 and 2013. A sweep of Saturday's doubleheader with Marion Military, which begins at 1 p.m., would put them over the top with 43 wins. Postseason games also count in the statistics.
