CVCC sweeps Marion Military, sets season record with 43 wins

No. 1-ranked CVCC baseball team rewrote the recordbook Saturday with a 7-2, 6-1 sweep of a doubleheader with Marion Military Institute.

The Pirates (43-9, 23-4) eclipsed the old mark of 42 wins in a season that was held by the 2010 and 2013 teams.

In Game 1, Dillon Lee (9-0) gave up two unearned runs on six hits and struck out nine over seven innings to pick up the victory in the 7-2 win.

The Pirates offense was led by Trevor Kieboom, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and drove in four runs. Grayson Ivey was 2-for-4 with an RBI. CVCC scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to stretch their two-run lead and put the game away.

In Game 2, Kevin Moore (4-1) gave up just one hit in four innings to get the win.

CVCC built a 6-0 lead before Marion could tally a single run in the top of the seventh to make the final score 6-1.

Jeff Ronpirin led the offense, going 2-for-2 and driving in two runs. Jared Martin was 1-for-2 and also drove in two runs.

The Pirates conclude the regular season Monday when they host Southern Union at 4 p.m. That is a makeup game for one recently postponed because of rain.
