Shaw's Breeanna Mahone has a trio of runner-up finishes


Shaw sophomore Breeanna Mahone finished the GHSA Class AAAA state track meet on Saturday with three runner-up finishes. She also had a sixth-place finish as well as a seventh-place finish.

Shaw's 4x100-meter relay team (Dazieha Granby, Octavia Sims, Kareema Grier, Mahone) finished second in 48.14 seconds. Redan won in 47.90.

Mahone also finished second in the 400 in 56.88. Redan's Promise Clark won in 56.34. Mahone finished seventh in the 200 in 25.45. Sims finished fourth in the 100 hurdles in 14.77.

The 4x400 relay team (Sims, Grier, Dazieha Granby and Mahone) finished sixth in 4:01.22.

Mahone came in second in the long jump Thursday. Last year, Mahone finished second in the 400, sixth in the 200 and 12th in the long jump.

The Lady Raiders finished fifth in the team results with 38 points. Marist won with 96.

Northside's Sydney Wright was the state runner-up in the Class AAAAA 100 in 12.19. Northside-Warner Robins' Cassondra Hall won in 11.66. Wright also finished third in the 200 in 24.85. Chelsea Nix finished eighth in the 300 hurdles in 46.38.

The Lady Patriots came in 11th with 15 points. Miller Grove won with 60.

Carver's Tyneisha Quarterman came in third in the Class AAA 400 in 58.38. She also finished fifth in the 200 in 25.73. Carver finished tied for 24th with 10 points. Woodward Academy won with 61.

In the Class AA meet, Spencer's Tahzma Wicker finished eighth in both the 100 in 12.92 and the 200 in 26.51. The Spencer team came in 24th with seven points. Lovett won with 92.

In the Class A public-school meet, Marion County's 4x100 relay team (Dinah Dixon, Zakeria Jones, Rebecca Dixon, Sarah Dixon) finished third in 50.06. Jada Gardner finished third in the 400 in 1:01.92. Aiyanna Crumbley was seventh in the 100 hurdles in 19.30 and third in the 300 hurdles in 50.43.

Rebecca Dixon came in third in the 800 in 2:34.97, while teammate Lavonia Dixon was fifth in 2:48.61. Rebecca Dixon was third in the 800 in 2:34.97.

The 4x400 relay team (Lavonia Dixon, Dinah Dixon, Crumbley and Gardner) finishes as runner-up at 4:16.60. GMC won at 4:13.51.

The Marion County team finished second with 72 points. Gordon Lee won with 81.

In the Class A private-school meet, Brookstone finished 16th with 12 points.

The Georgia meet was held in Albany, while the Alabama meet was in Gulf Shores.

In the Class 6A state meet, Central boys 4x100 relay team finished third in 41.84. The boys 4x400 relay team came in fourth in 3:21.38.

Central's Tyree Reed finished fourth in both the 110 hurdles in 14.95 and the 300 hurdles in 39.94. Ryan Humphrey was fourth in the 100 in 11.16 and sixth in the 200 in 22.19. Karon Delince finished fifth in the long jump at 21-9½.

The Central girls 4x400 team finished third in 3:58.92. Smiths Station's 4x400 finished fourth in 4:01.3.

Smiths Station's Shy'keya Wimberly was fifth in the 300 hurdles in 46.16.

The Red Devils finished sixth with 37 points, while Smiths Station came in 26th with two. Hoover won with 105.5.

In the girls results, Smiths Station came in ninth with 23 points, while Central finished 21st with nine. Hoover won with 129.5.

In 5A, Russell County's Chris Miles finished fifth in the 800 in 2:04.30. In the boys team standings, the Warriors tied for 20th with 14 points. Homewood won with 102.5.



MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- After winning their first games Friday, Glenwood dropped both games Saturday to be eliminated in the AISA Class 3A state tournament.

In Saturday's Game 1, Macon-East's Deven Kennedy, who was named the tournament MVP, pitched a five-inning no-hitter as Glenwood fell 10-0 in a game shortened by the mercy rule.

In Game 2, Springwood, which Glenwood had beaten in all meetings this year, rallied for two runs in the fifth inning and held on for the victory. Macon-East later defeated Springwood in the championship game.

On Friday Glenwood defeated Bessemer 5-1 and Springwood 4-0.

Coach Dusty Perdue had praise for his team and especially his two seniors.

Perdue said Macey Tucker finished her career with 88 victories, second only to Olivia McLemore, who had more than 100 wins. And catcher Cailah Niles finished her career with 52 homers, the last coming against Bessemer on Friday.Friday at Montgomery, Ala.

The Brookstone boys tennis team advanced to the Class A private-school state sournament semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Hebron Christian on Saturday morning.

Trey Thorne and Hudson Terrell secured the Cougars' first win at No. 1 doubles, beating James Everson and Nathan Blahnik, 6-1, 6-0.

Jack Pease and Hayden Spicer won next at No. 2 doubles, defeating Nathan Long and Jared Queen, 6-0, 6-1.

Baran Baras finished the match with a 6-0, 6-0 pasting of Caleb Moss at No. 2 singles.

Kazuki Onoe and Jonathan Dreelin were both one game away from wins when their matches were pulled.

The Cougars face Pace Academy in the semifinals in a match that must be finished by Wednesday.Saturday at Brookstone

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Columbus finished in a tie for fifth place in The Invite at Chattahoochee Country Club on Saturday.

The Blue Devils shot a 299 on Friday and a 303 Saturday to finish at 602. They tied with St. Pius in the nine-team event.

Gainesville won with a 560 score. Marist was second at 570.

Columbus was led by Stanton Schorr, who finished 13th with a 147. Gainesville's Spencer Ralston won with a 133.Saturday at Chattahoochee
