ATHENS, Ga. -- Daniel Nichols hit a grand slam as Georgia beat South Carolina 5-3 on Sunday at Foley Field.
The victory gave the Dogs a series win over the Gamecocks for the first time since sweeping them in 2008.
The series win comes after Georgia (23-23-1, 9-14-1 SEC) had lost seven straight before Friday night's win.
Nichols' slam came in the third inning and gave Georgia a 5-0 lead over the Gamecocks (25-13, 13-11). He also had a double in the second inning and scored the first run.
Teammate Hunter Cole went 3-for-3 with a run scored.
David Sosebee (1-3) picked up the win, going six innings and allowing two runs on four hits.
Georgia will host Savannah State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
