Columbus State opens PBC baseball tournament against Montevallo

The Columbus State baseball team will play the late game on the first day of the Peach Belt Conference tournament, it was announced Sunday,

The Cougars, who are the second seed, will play seventh-seeded Montevallo at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The eight-team, single-elimination tournament is being played at USC Aiken.

Top-seeded Lander, who edged CSU by a game, will open the tournament at 10 a.m. against No. 8-seed Francis Marion.

Francis Marion makes the tournament despite finishing ninth in the standings. Young Harris would have been seventh, but it is not yet eligible for the postseason after joining the conference last season.

Georgia College, the 4 seed, will play UNC Pembroke, the 5 seed, at 1:30 p.m. In the third game of the day, Aiken, the 3 seed, will face Armstrong Atlantic, the 6 seed, at 5 p.m.

The semifinals will be played at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday with the championship game to follow at 5 p.m.
