Man critically injured in early-morning gunfire

One man is in critical condition after being shot on Rosemont Drive early Monday, according to Columbus police.

At about 1:07 a.m., police responded to the 4100 block of Rosemont Drive in reference to multiple shots fired. At the scene, officers found one victim, a 30-year-old black male, who was "rushed into surgery" at Midtown Medical Center for gunshot wounds to his lower stomach.

Subsequent investigation shows that several men were fighting on the scene when "the altercation escalated and guns were drawn," police said. The Smiths Station, Ala. victim was struck in the crossfire.

He remains in critical condition, according to hospital officials.

Monday morning's incident comes after a suspect attempted to rob two men on Rosemont Drive Sunday morning. Those victim's are being interviewed as CPD continues its investigation.
