A blown tire claimed the lives of two area motorcyclists Sunday on U.S. 231, according to an Alabama State Trooper press release.

Troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash after 46-year-old Columbus resident Jimmy Lee Walker experienced a blowout near the 4.7 mile marker at about 2:55 p.m. The blown tire caused Walker to veer into Phenix City resident Timothy Lewis Rakestraw's 1998 Harley Davidson. Rakestraw was 33 years old, according to the release.
