Earnest drives in 4 runs to lead Georgia Tech over North Florida 9-6


ATLANTA -- Mitch Earnest homered, doubled and drove in four runs Tuesday to lead Georgia Tech to a 9-6 win over North Florida at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets picked up two runs in each the first, third and fourth innings to build a 6-2 lead. Earnest had a 2-run homer in the fourth. He added a 2-run double in the sixth inning as the Jackets scored three times to pull away to a 9-2 lead.

The Ospreys (20-25) rallied for three runs in the seventh inning and one in the eighth but could get no closer.

Sam Clay (3-1) allowed one hit in two innings of relief and picked up the win. Dusty Isaacs pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and no runs. He recorded his fifth save of the season.

North Florida's Nick Miller (0-2) gave up two runs on three hits in relief and took the loss.

Georgia Tech (29-20, 14-13 ACC) visits Virginia (37-9, 18-6) for a three-game conference series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
