Brookstone boys tennis advances to state finals


ATLANTA -- The Brookstone boys tennis team is headed back to the Class A private-school state championship match.

The Cougars (16-1) beat rival Pace Academy 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon in the semifinals.

Brookstone will face Savannah Country Day on Saturday at Clayton Park in Jonesboro. The Cougars beat SCD earlier this season 4-1 in the area title game.

This will be Brookstone's second trip to the finals in three seasons. Brookstone lost in 2012. The Cougars won their previous trip, 3-1, over Athens Academy in the 2005 finals.

Kazuki Onoe won at No. 1 singles, beating Jay Kumar 6-4, 6-4. Baran Baris won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3 over Matthew Seaman.

Sahil Arora and Hayden Spicer won at No. 2 doubles, beating David Martas and Ansheman Parikh, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Trey Thorne and Hudson Terrell lost at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-0 to Daniel Gray and Josh Nash.
