AUBURN, Ala. The last time Auburn had two players selected in the first round of the NFL draft, it was coming off a victory in the BCS title game.
In 2011, that duo was Cam Newton and Nick Fairley. After another appearance in the BCS championship contest in January, the Tigers had two more first rounders on Thursday in Greg Robinson and Dee Ford. Robinson was selected with the second overall pick by the St. Louis Rams. Ford, meanwhile, had to wait a bit longer, lasting until the 23rd selection, when the Kansas City Chiefs dialed up his cell phone.
He didn't receive word in New York City, however. Instead, Ford elected to hold a party for family and friends at a local nightclub in Anniston, Ala. Last season, Ford recorded 10.5 sacks, tied for most in the Southeastern Conference even though he sat out the first two games with an injury.
He'll apparently have the chance line up at defensive end in Kansas City as well. According to reports, Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton plans to have Ford take reps at both linebacker and defensive end, telling Ford that he'll work with his hand "on and off" the ground.
