Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Last year's runner-up Maria Sharapova and fourth-seeded Romanian Simona Halep will meet in Sunday's final at the $4.2 million Madrid Open, a clay court French Open tune-up.
The eighth-seeded Sharapova cruised past third-seeded Polish star Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1, 6-4, while Halep rallied past fifth-seeded Petra Kvitova 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2.
The career Grand Slam champion Sharapova, who lost to Serena Williams in last year's Madrid finale, improved to 10-2 lifetime against Radwanska.
Sharapova will try to win her 31st career title, while Halep carries a 7-3 mark in title matches into Sunday's final.
The 27-year-old Sharapova is 2-0 lifetime against Halep.
Williams, who won this tournament the past two years, pulled out with a thigh injury on Friday.
