TROY, Ala. -- If Central is going to return to the AHSAA Class 6A state tournament, it will have to do it the hard way.

The Lady Red Devils dropped the opener in the South Central Region on Friday morning, 6-1 to Spain Park.

That loss meant Central would need to win four straight to qualify for the state tournament.

Central got the first one out of the way Friday afternoon, routing Lee-Montgomery, 19-8, in six innings. The game was shortened due to the mercy rule.

Taylor Corbett led the way in the second game, going 4-for-5 and scoring two runs. She also had a pair of hits in the first game.

Ashton Wicker and Kaelen Scott had three hits apiece. Scott had three runs scored and an RBI, while Wicker scored twice and drove in one.
