Rentz pitches one-hitter as CVCC crushes Wallace-Dothan

OZARK, Ala. — Dalton Rentz pitched a one-hitter as the No. 1-ranked Chattahoochee Valley Pirates crushed Wallace State-Dothan 10-0 in the opener of the ACCC tournament.

Rentz struck out nine and walked four.

Cam Sperry led the Pirates at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Grayson Ivey went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Tyler Lynn went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Jared Martin went 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.

John Holland and JD Perry had two hits apiece.

Austin Whitlock got the only hit off Rentz.

In other first-round games, Southern Union beat Calhoun 9-1, Shelton State beat Jefferson Davis 3-1 and Snead State beat Central Alabama 4-1.

With the win, CVCC earns a bye on Saturday. The Pirates will play again at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. They will play the winner of Saturday's Alabama Southern-Snead State game.
