High school track championships: Spencer's Eddie Stafford finishes second in 800


JEFFERSON, Ga. -- Spencer High's Eddie Stafford had the best finish of any local athlete in the GHSA boys state track meet Saturday.

Stafford finished as the state runner-up in the Class AA 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 57.75 seconds. Westminster's Jordan Flowers won with a time of 1:56.41.

Also, in AA, Chattahoochee County's 4x100 relay team (Delvante Lawrence, Leontae Lockett, Jodie Perkins, Christopher Askew) finished eighth in 45.99. Askew also finished eighth in the 100 in 11.05.

Spencer finished 13th in the team results with 13 points. Chattahoochee County finished tied fro 33rd with two points. Lamar County won with 77.

In Class AAAA, Shaw's David Whitehead finished sixth in the 400 in 49.89. Teammate Kalin Cook came in third in the 300 hurdles in 39.34 and seventh in the 110 hurdles in 14.88.

Shaw's 4x400 relay team (Cook, Desmond Gomillia, Jordan Gillespie, Whitehead) finished fourth in 3:22.11.

In the team results, Shaw finished seventh with 29 points. Marist won with 67. Columbus was 32nd with four.

In Class AAAAA, Northside's Abraham Perez finished fourth in the 800 in 1:58.04. Harris County's Kentravious Davis finished seventh in the 100 in 10.94.

Northside finished tied for 35th with 5 points in the team results. Harris County tied fro 46th with 2. Mt. Zion-Jonesboro won with 58.

In the wheelchair division, Northside's Travis Underwood finished third in the 200 in 49.74 and third in the 800 in 3:34.27.
