Waddell leads No. 1 Virginia to 3-1 win over Georgia Tech


CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Brandon Waddell spread five hits over sevening innings Sunday to lead No. 1 Virginia to a 3-1 victory over Georgia Tech and a sweep of the three-game series.

Waddell (7-2) allowed the only Tech run, an Elliott Barzilli homer in the fifth inning, after being staked to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Nick Howard recorded his 17th save of the season for Virginia (41-9, 21-6)

Ben Parr (4-3) gave up two runs on eight hits and took the loss.

Daniel Spingola went 2-for-4 with a double for Georgia Tech (29-23, 14-16).

The Jackets play Georgia at Turner Field Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Kauffman Tire Spring Classic for Kids.
