Tim Chitwood: The runoff also will run on and on

Here's a depressing thought born of a coworker's remarking how happy she'll be when this election's over, on May 21:

It won't be over May 21.

Surely a runoff must ensue. The Republican ballot has nine people running for state school superintendent and seven seeking the U.S. Senate nomination.

The Democrats have four running for Senate and six for state school superintendent.

A summer runoff will drag out, because of the way the schedule's set: It will be July 22, leaving lots of time for outdoor rallies, speeches and parades.

So, plan your vacation accordingly, should you want to miss that.

Next to last chance

Speaking of the election, this week offers your last chance to vote early before the May 20 state party primaries and local so-called "nonpartisan" contests such as the Columbus mayor's race.

So you might as well get it over with.

Here are the early in-person sites and hours through Friday:

• The Columbus Baptist Association, 3679 Steam Mill Road, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

• The City Services Center, 311 Citizens Way, in the community room, 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

• Peachtree Mall, 3131 Manchester Expressway, at the rear in the old Piccadilly Restaurant, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

So, if you don't get it done by 8 p.m. at the mall, you'll have to wait until next Tuesday.

And speaking of politics. …

Elmer dumps Daffy

Here's a comment posted to a report on the local Fraternal Order of Police endorsement of Colin Martin, who's challenging incumbent Mayor Teresa Tomlinson.

As the incumbent public safety director, Tomlinson was given a chance to respond to the FOP endorsement. And then the FOP through President Randy Robertson was given a chance to respond to Tomlinson's response, and that's where it ended, because some of us have deadlines and we can't just go on and on and on.

This posting's from Elmer Lee Bechdoldt:

Her Devine holiness Teresa the almighty has made it clear that she brokes no dissent. The fact that a well known elitist like comrade Chitwood backing her position of rule by arbitrary fiat and dictatorial control is proof that my brothers in blue see a failed leader. By the way Comrade your position has moved me from voting for Daffy Duck to Martin. Your and LE support for the mayor is enough cause to remove her.

Dear Elmer:

"Well known" elitist, huh? Thanks!

I am so going to rub that in all those elitist nobodies' faces.
