Sheriff takes mayoral assistant's mugshot off jail website

Muscogee County Sheriff John Darr ordered the jail mugshot of Lacey Morrison, the administrative assistant to Mayor Teresa Tomlinson who was arrested for DUI this weekend, to be removed from the sheriff’s office website, Darr confirmed this morning.

“I told them to take it down,” Darr said. “I don’t want people to use Lacey as political fodder. There’s enough politics going on right now anyway, good and bad.”

Darr said Tomlinson did not ask him to take Morrison’s photo off the website.

“Nobody contacted me,” Darr said. “I’m not running for anything this year, so it doesn’t make any difference to me. But I just didn’t want to see her used politically. I don’t want any citizen to be used politically.”

Darr said he periodically removes inmate mugshots when he believes the situation warrants it.

“I’ve had people call me and ask to have them taken down,” Darr said. “If you have a daughter and you call and ask me to take her photo down, I might agree or disagree with you. It depends on the circumstances.

“If I think somebody’s going to use it just to embarrass somebody, I might take it down.”

Tomlinson said she was not aware the mugshot had been taken down until asked by a reporter. She also stated flatly that neither she nor anyone in her office had been in contact with Darr concerning the arrest.

“Absolutely not. I didn’t know anything about it,” Tomlinson said. “I’m not injecting myself or the mayor’s office into the situation.”

A Georgia State Patrolman pulled Morrison over early Saturday morning on Moon Road and charged her with DUI Less Safe, which means she did not fail a field sobriety test, but was deemed by the officer to be impaired.

Tomlinson said she disagrees with any citizen being treated differently from any other.

“Each person should have the same process applied to them as every other,” she said.

The incident occurred just a few days after the mayor’s executive assistant Judy Tucker was sent home for taking a campaign sign for mayoral opponent Colin Martin. Tucker said she had intended to play a practical joke on the mayor.

Morrison was also told to take two days of leave in the wake of her arrest.
