CSU tennis teams head to Round of 16

Both of Columbus State's tennis programs have advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 before. But this year is the first time that both are going in the same year.

Both teams open play today in the Round of 16 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The Lady Cougars are making their third straight trip and sixth trip overall to the Round of 16. Ninth-ranked CSU will play Lewis at 10:30 a.m.

The Lady Cougars breezed through their half of the Southeast Regional, beating Erskine and Georgia College by identical 5-0 scores.

The CSU women are led by Paola Cigui, who was named the ITA Women's Southeast Senior Player of the Year last week. The senior is a two-time All-American in both singles and doubles She is 64-3 in her CSU career.

Teammate Beatriz Leon was named the ITA Women's Southeast Freshman of the Year.

The Cougars, who are making their third trip but first since 2011, will play Hawaii Pacific at 4 p.m.

Oussama Zoghlami was named the ITA Men's Southeast Region Player to Watch.

Zoghlami went 10-1 at No. 2 singles before moving up to No. 1 singles. There he went 9-4.
