Kyle Carter leads Miami-Dade to JUCO world series


LAKELAND, Fla. -- Former Columbus High standout Kyle Carter is headed to the JUCO world series after helping Miami-Dade College to the Region 8 (Florida) championship with a 4-2 win over Polk State on Wednesday.

Carter came in with one out and a runner on in the seventh inning with a 3-2 lead. He picked the runner off first base. The final seven outs he recorded were all by strikeout.

Carter entered the Region 8 tournament with a 7-1 record with one save in 11 games. He was batting .389 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 39 games. He played first base and the outfield.

Carter began his college career at Georgia but left after being arrested twice.

The JUCO world series in Grand Junction, Colorado, begins May 24.
