Murray, Hyde power Georgia Tech to 12-5 win over South Florida


ATLANTA -- A.J. Murray went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs Saturday to lead Georgia Tech to a 12-5 win over South Florida at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (32-24, 14-16 ACC) battered South Florida (27-28) pitchers with 19 hits and broke the game open with 6-run fifth inning.

Mott Hyde went 3-for-5, homered and drove in three runs.

Ben Parr (5-3) allowed one run on four hits over six innings and picked up the win. Zac Ryan, Matthew Gorst and Dusty Issacs eached worked an inning of relief. Gorst gave up four runs on four hits in the eighth inning before Issacs closed out the game with a hitless ninth inning.

Tommy Peterson (3-4) gave up three runs on six hits in 2 2-3 innings and took the loss.

Georgia Tech will play in the ACC tournament at Newbridge Bank Park in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Georgia Tech earned the No. 8-seed and will face No. 9-seed Wake Forest (30-25, 15-15) Tuesday at 3 p.m.

The other eight teams in the 10-team field are Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina State, North Carolina and Virginia.
