Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Gyasi Zardes scored and added an assist on Wednesday as the Los Angeles Galaxy came away with a nervy 2-1 result over Western Conference rivals FC Dallas at the StubHub Center.
Coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo last Saturday, the Galaxy needed to come up with a better effort in front of the home fans, but it was FC Dallas that had the better of the play in the early stages.
FCD created the first quality chance after 12 minutes when Je-Vaughn Watson got free and had a go from the right side of the box, but the strike was tipped over the crossbar by Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo.
Los Angeles struck first in the 24th minute as Robbie Keane collected a long switch pass from Zardes. He touched the ball past his defender and unleashed a blistering left-footed strike into the top left corner of the net.
The hosts then made it 2-0 just before the intermission when Juninho swung a driven cross into the penalty area and onto the head of Zardes, who flicked it past FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez.
Dallas pulled one back with 25 minutes to play as Jair Benitez did well to bend the ball around the Galaxy back line into the feet of Tesho Akindele, who finished at the near post to bring FC Dallas back into the game,
But FC Dallas could never create an equalizing goal as the Galaxy defense held firm to claim an important three points.
The result snaps a four-match winless run for the Galaxy, who improve to 12 points, while FC Dallas has not won since a 2-1 victory over Toronto on April 19.
