Columbus State notes: Robert Mize earns All-Southeast Region honors

Columbus State golfer Robert Mize (Brookstone) was named to the Division II PING All-Southeast Region Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

This is Mize's third postseason honor. He was also selected to the All Peach Belt Conference first team and the PBC All-Academic team.

Mize, a sophomore, won twice and also had two other top-10 finishes.

He won the Aflac/Cougar Invitational last fall at the Country Club of Columbus. He won three weeks later at the TVA Credit Union Invitational.

He finished the season with an average of 72.8.

Baseball honors

Three Columbus State baseball players were selected to the All-Southeast Regional Tournament Team, officials announced Tuesday.

Mike McClellan had seven hits, including three home runs. He finished with five runs scored.

Carson Bowers (Glenwood) led CSU in the tournament, hitting .500 (12-for-24) with a double and five RBIs.

He scored six runs. He had a stretch in the tournament when he reached base in nine straight plate appearances.

Brendan Collins hit .423 with two homers and two doubles.

He had a team-high eight RBIs.

CSU lost to Lander in the championship game of the regional.

Sportsmanship

The Columbus State baseball team won more honors Wednesday as the Cougars were named the winners of the Peach Belt Conference Team Sportsmanship Award.

The Cougars and Francis Marion shared the award.

The PBC names a sportsmanship winner in each sport. It is voted on by the teams.

The CSU soccer team earned the award during the fall.
