Nice, France ( - Ernests Gulbis of Latvia captured his first clay-court title Saturday with a straight-set victory over Argentina's Federico Delbonis in the final of the Nice Open.

The second-seeded Gulbis rolled in the first set en route to a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) triumph. He remained perfect in ATP World Tour finals, improving to 6-0 with his second title of 2014. Both have come in France, as he claimed the Marseille title back in February.

"I am really happy to win here," said Gulbis. "I really like the south of France. I've repeated it many times, I think I will be coming here on vacation and I think you are going to see me a lot around this area."

Gulbis dominated early, winning the first set in a mere 26 minutes. He failed to convert a trio of break points in the second set and fell behind 2-4 in the tiebreaker before winning five of the last six points.

Delbonis was also trying for his second title of 2014, previously winning the Sao Paulo crown back in March. He is 1-2 all-time in ATP finals.

"He played well. I didn't start the best way and he broke me twice," said Delbonis. "In the second set I gave my best, it was more equal. I had my chances but couldn't take them because he served well."

Both will make the trip to Paris for next week's French Open. Gulbis will open with Lukasz Kubot, while Delbonis will meet Dusan Lajovic in the first round.
