High school notes: Rosters for baseball all-star game set

The rosters have been announced for the 2014 Georgia-Alabama Bi-City All-Star game, which will be played at 7 p.m. on June 4 at Columbus State's Ragsdale Field.

Hardaway leads the way for the Georgia team with four players -- catcher Josh Anthony, pitcher/first baseman Blake Meadows, outfielder Trent Abrams and pitcher Bryan Pate.

Northside and Columbus have three each.

For Northside, they are infielder Michael Rossi and outfielders Cam Hopkins and Vic Ballesteros. Catcher Nick Poskey, pitcher/designated hitter Will Bice and pitcher/third baseman Will Kilgore.

Others on the team are Harris County's A.J. Willoughby and Hughes Massengale, Jordan's Javier Vizcarrondo and Chance McKinnon, Brookstone's Keith Pridgen, Calvary's Trent Burns and Shaw's Isaiah Arnold.

Glenwood and Central have five players apiece on the Alabama team.

For Glenwood, they are pitcher/first baseman Chad Silvani, pitcher Tanner Thomason, outfielder Dylan Denny, third baseman Matthew Brabston and outfielder Luke Hammock.

Shortstop Blake Johnson, outfielder Jamal Howard, catcher Coleson Taylor, second baseman Tanner Davis and pitcher Jesse Ford made the team from Central.

Others on the team are Opelika's B.J. White, Doss Arnold, Garrett Brown and Casey Senn; and Beauregard's Nathan Langley, Jake Weaver and Ryan Hargett.

The game is not connected to the Ledger-Enquirer's All-Bi-City team.

1-AAAAA baseball

Harris County, which won the Region 1-AAAAA title, also swept the three major postseason awards.

Casey Cobb was named the Pitcher of the Year, while A.J. Willoughby won the Player of the Year award. Steve Westmoreland won the Coach of the Year.

Harris County also placed three players on the first team. In addition to Cobb, the second baseman, Kurt Ornowksi and Dillon Rodgers made it as outfielders.

Hardaway placed three on the first team as well. They were first baseman Blake Meadows, catcher Josh Anthony and outfielder Tre'Von Dorsey.

Northside also placed three on the first team. They were shortstop Michael Rossi, outfielder Cam Hopkins and pitcher Drew Haywood.

Second-teamers were Christian Wiggs, Tyler Maley, Hughes Massengale and Drew Reeves from Harris County; Sam Anthony, Marcel Byrd and Dorsey (as a pitcher); and Vic Ballesteros and Bryce Delevie from Northside.

4-A baseball

Brookstone's Matt Jones earned Co-Player of the Year award for Region 4-A baseball.

Jones' teammate who made the first team are pitcher Jarrod Little, catcher Drew Webb, infielder Andrew Hamric and outfielder Keith Pridgen.

Marion County's Dylan Price (pitcher) and Trent Miller (infielder) also made the dfirst team.

Second-teamers are Brookstone's Hunter Green and Eliot Turner, Pacelli's Jared Welch and Whit Crawford and Marion County's Dustin Eckert.

Making honorable mention are Brookstones Culver Nored and Marion County's Brandon Dumas and J.J. Fuller.

5-AA soccer

Spencer's Osvaldo Valencia has been named the Region 5-AA boys soccer Player of the Year.

Joining him on the first team were Spencer's Chris Arevalo and Robert Guerrero, Jordan's Javante West, Chattahoochee County's Salvatore Hrycych and Joseph Kennedy and Manchester's Matthew Rahkshani.

Second teamers were Kendrick's Cory Kerr, Kerry Parker and Alvon Whittington, Jordan's Shavea Porter, Darnell White and Juan Garcia, Spencer's Carsten Rauch and Manchester's Torrance Whita.
