Columbus, OH ( - The Columbus Crew snapped an eight-game winless skid on Saturday with first-half goals from Ethan Finlay and Jairo Arrieta in a 2-0 win over the Chicago Fire at Crew Stadium.

Federico Higuain made his mark on the match as well as he assisted on both goals, including the opener after 10 minutes.

The Argentine played a well-weighted through ball from midfield into the path of Finlay, who dashed down the right wing and rounded goalkeeper Sean Johnson before rolling the ball into the net from a tight angle.

Columbus doubled its lead 15 minutes later with Higuain once again the architect as he slid a pass into the area for Arrieta, who slotted his shot inside the far post to put the hosts in control.

The Fire came close to pulling a goal back a few minutes later when a header from Luis Anangono struck the post, while Higuain nearly found the net himself just before halftime with a free kick that sailed narrowly past the post.

Dominic Oduro came off the bench for the Crew in the second half and he nearly added to the advantage in the 72nd when he got down the right wing and fired the ball inches past the far post.
