Kyle Carter and Miami Dade win JUCO world series opener


GRAND JUNCTION, Col. — Kyle Carter (Columbus High) pitched a complete game in leading Miami Dade to an 8-3 victory over Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist in the JUCO world series on Monday at Suplizio Field.

Miami Dade will play Blinn (Texas) on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. Blinn beat CVCC 10-2 on Monday night.

Miami Dade (36-16) scored the first three runs of the game against Spartanburg (46-17), and Carter was in command the entire game.

Carter threw 113 pitches and allowed five hits and two walks. He struck out eight.

Carter gave up just one hit through the first five innings and took a 3-0 lead to the sixth. He allowed two runs on two hits, one of them unearned.

Miami Dade restored the three-run cushion in the bottom of the sixth.

Carter gave up the third run in the eighth. Miami Dade blew the game open with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Meanwhile, Carter got offensive support from Jose Gomez, who went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and David Palenzuela, who went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

The game was scheduled to be played Sunday night, but rain forced it to be postponed.
