Recap: Chivas USA vs. Philadelphia

The Sports NetworkJune 1, 2014

Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Conor Casey helped the Philadelphia Union snap a horrid run of form by scoring two goals in a 3-0 defeat of Chivas USA at the StubHub Center on Saturday.

The Union entered the match on a two-game slide that saw the club leak a total of nine goals.

But John Hackworth's men responded admirably as Casey's brace and a clean sheet lifted the visitors to all three points.

The opener came in the 28th minute when a free kick was blocked in the box by the outstretched arm of Martin Rivero, which allowed Casey to give the Union the lead from the ensuing penalty.

Casey doubled Philadelphia's advantage in the 66th minute when he met Christian Maidana's exquisite cross and nodded the delivery past Dan Kennedy.

Maidana went from provider to scorer 10 minutes later when he took Vincent Nogueira's pass and ripped a low shot into the bottom corner. Andrew Wenger was in an offside position when the shot was taken and appeared to interfere with Kennedy's ability to make a save, but the goal was allowed to stand.

Philadelphia (3-7-5) climbs to 14 points on the season while Chivas (2-7-4) suffers its fifth straight home loss to stay on 10 points for the season.
