Columbus native Jeb Butler announced this week he is leaving his fathers law firm to form a new Atlanta personal injury firm with his new partner, Darren Tobin.
Butler has been with Butler, Wooten & Fryhofer since 2011. That Columbus-based firm was co-founded by his father, successful trial attorney Jim Butler. Jeb Butler had been working in the firms Atlanta office.
Tobin had been practicing at Childers, Schlueter & Smith, an Atlanta firm. The new firm will be known as Butler Tobin LLC.
One thing I learned at Butler Wooten was to be selective to take only a few cases, and maximize the value of each one, Jeb Butler said in a news release announcing the new firm. Darren and I continue that philosophy at our firm.
Jeb Butler and Tobin were law school classmates at the University of Georgia.
Jeb Butler outlined his reason for leaving in the news release.
I love my father with all my heart, and not only that, I have loved practicing law with him, Jeb Butler said. But I wanted to do what he did 35 years ago start my own firm.
Leaving was not an easy decision Jeb Butler said.
The firm is flush with great cases and 2014 looks like it will be a banner year, Jeb Butler said. But Darren and I are betting on ourselves, and I cant imagine a better person to make that gamble with.
Jim Butler has been one of the nations top trial lawyers winning large verdicts against major corporations such as General Motors.
Jeb stayed longer in his first firm than I did, Jim Butler said. Hes a terrific young lawyer and will do great things for people.
