London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seed Stan Wawrinka moved into the semifinals, while second-seeded former Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych was a quarterfinal upset victim Friday at the $965,000 Aegon Championships.
The Australian Open champion Wawrinka topped Aussie Marinko Matosevic 7-5, 6-3, while 10th-seeded Spanish left-hander Feliciano Lopez, who typically plays his best tennis on grass, took out the Czech slugger Berdych in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7), at The Queen's Club.
Meanwhile, fourth-seeded rising Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov advanced via walkover when eighth-seeded Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov pulled out of the draw and 15th-seeded 35-year-old Czech veteran Radek Stepanek, who stunned reigning Queen's Club champ Andy Murray on Thursday, vanquished seventh-seeded South African Kevin Anderson, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, on Day 5 at this Wimbledon tune- up.
Saturday's semifinals will pit the Swiss stalwart Wawrinka against Dimitrov and Lopez versus his fellow tour veteran Stepanek. Wawrinka is 2-0 against the 23-year-old Dimitrov and the two players will meet for the first time on grass.
