Caderrickton Barnes

A Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said Tuesday that law enforcement has identified a suspect after a man was killed in a hit-and-run accident near the West Point exit on I-85.

Chief Deputy Neil Adams said Caderrickton Barnes, 46, has been detained as a suspect on the charges of felony hit and run and first-degree vehicular homicide. Adams said Barnes is being held on a detainment order from Georgia State Patrol.

Georgia State Patrol officials said Monday that the accident occurred near the West Point exit around 2:45 a.m.

The Harris County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the victim. No details about the pedestrian have been released.

Troopers originally searched for a suspect potentially driving a 1997 to 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix. No information about Barnes’ vehicle was available.

Further charges may be pending, Adams said.

Clarification: an earlier version of this story said that Barnes had been arrested
