A 36-year-old man from Birmingham, Ala., is charged with felony first-degree sodomy in connection with the sexual abuse of a girl under 12, the Auburn Police Division said Thursday.

Booker T. Thomas Jr. was arrested Wednesday, nearly a month after an investigation was launched into a May 27 allegation in which officers were informed that a child under 12 was sexually abused. Thomas is being held in the Lee County Jail on $25,000 bond.

The incident occurred at a residence on Lee Road 191 sometime between 2001 and 2006. An investigation by the detectives revealed that Thomas was in Birmingham and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.

Thomas surrendered to authorities in Auburn and he was taken into custody.
